12 Back-to-School Tips To Help Your Family Stay Organized
Getting back into the school routine can be a stressful time for families. So here are some tried-and-true tips to keep your mornings and evenings flowing smoothly.
1. Create a special drawer with school outfits for the week or hang them on hangers. Get your children involved in selecting the outfits on Sunday so you are all on the same page.
2. Dedicate a space to store backpacks. You can put hooks on a wall or the back of a closet door.
3. Let your children help with choosing and organizing their supplies. This makes them more invested in the process. You can use bins, jars and baskets or even a clear over-the-door shoe organizer to keep everything sorted and stored.
4. Establish a routine for checking and emptying your child’s backpack daily to keep it organized and ensure important papers aren’t lost.
5. Have a separate place for your school papers and supplies. You can use file folders, baskets, or even a tiered organizer if you have a bunch of items you want to keep visible and within reach.
6. Use a visual schedule or checklist to help your children remember daily tasks and responsibilities. Keep it in a central location.
7. Have a dedicated, well-lit space where children can do school work and projects. Keep it stocked with essential supplies such as pencils, erasers, paper and scissors.
8. Keep books in view to help promote reading at home and always have a few on hand when running errands with your children.
9. Spend a few minutes each evening to help your children plan for the next day. This will prevent a morning scramble for anything that’s needed and get everyone aligned on the day’s activities.
10. Let your children help choose snacks and pack their lunch. This involvement can make them more excited about eating healthy and reduce waste.
11. Create snack packs that are easy to grab and go. Use reusable bags or containers to keep things organized.
12. If there is an event happening at school that your children are nervous about, visualize it together. Talk through what they will see, hear and do. This way they will be prepared when the day arrives and will know what to expect.
