At Leading Edge, we want to help our students avoid the ‘summer slide.’ This is a phenomenon where children lose the gains they’ve made in reading when they are out of school for several months. And this year, it’s more important than ever to encourage kids to continue growing their skills. Most have been learning remotely throughout the COVID-19 crisis, and it’s been a long, challenging road for students, parents and teachers.

By reading 20 to 30 minutes a day, children will get the practice they need to keep their skills strong. And while we know it’s important for kids to read each day, we also believe that summer should be a time to relax, explore and have fun. So, we want to make it easy for our Leading Edge families to incorporate reading into daily routines.  With our new Book Zone, we hope to accomplish that.

Every week, we will be posting new themes with links to free online books your children can read or listen to as Read-Alouds. Books are organized by grade, so students can easily find titles for their reading level.

Need help getting kids motivated to read? Print our Leading Edge All-Star Reading Log and encourage children to track how many books they can read this summer!

Book Zone can be found at https://www.leadingedgekids.com/book-zone.

Happy Reading!
